A while ago, I made a post about the steps to getting started in a fit lifestyle. I mentioned that the word “diet” has numerous connotations that can be unhealthy regardless of the types of food it champions. If you scroll through Instagram a lot, you’ll see posts about models sharing a full day of eating, and then others saying it doesn’t matter what you eat as long as you measure macros or calories. There is a lot of conflicting information.
The moral of the story is that every single person has a different body and different needs for that body. The information out there can be overwhelming, and now I’m saying none of it is right anyway? Not exactly. These are great to use as guides. If you know someone with a similar body type, some of what they are doing might work for you too.
The method is the same as when you’re first starting to work out. Start slow, change one thing at a time. Drink one less soda a day, eat one less cookie, take the time to pack lunch instead of eating out. Whatever it is, that one thing will get easier, and then you can try another thing.
Educating yourself on foods and energy is the best way to start out on the road towards a healthy style of eating. Notice I didn’t say diet; this is not temporary, it is a lifestyle. Sometimes just paying attention can change your perspective. Look up grams of sugar to intake daily. Read the labels on what you’re eating, especially for snacks. The little things really do matter here.
What you put into your body should be intentional, and knowing ingredients and making your own food is a good way to start with those intentions. Maybe one day someone will ask you what they should eat if they want to diet. Hopefully, you’ll tell them not to diet, but to change one thing at a time.
